The Densitometry Unit at El Carmen Medical Center is located in the “Diagnostic Center” at Avda. Habana, 71.
Densitometry is often used to measure the density of bone mineral and thus to predict the risk of fractures.
It is a completely painless procedure and does not require densitometric injections, sedation, or any invasive procedure. Unlike nuclear medicine, it does not require you to take any medicinal preparation or follow a special diet.
Patients who are usually indicated for densitometry are:
- Post-menopausal women with at least one other risk factor
- Women over 65 years
- Post-menopausal women with fractures
- Women who are considering therapy for osteoporosis, in the event that the result of densitometry may affect their decision *
